Chanzo-Based Health Organisation (CBHO) is a Tanzanian non-governmental organisation founded by medical professionals committed to improving health and wellbeing.
The story of Chanzo is rooted in firsthand experience of health information gaps, limited access to care and the challenges facing young people and underserved communities.
Dr. Idda Mihindi, founder of CBHO, grew up in a rural low-income community in Tanzania where healthcare and reliable health information were limited.
As a medical student, she volunteered in rural schools, providing sexual and reproductive health education and supporting girls with menstrual hygiene products. She saw that challenges she had experienced were still affecting the next generation.
As a doctor, she observed people from underserved communities arriving at healthcare facilities only after illnesses had progressed. This strengthened her commitment to prevention, early action, education, screening and community-based solutions.
